Since 1 January 2002 (A/RES/55/278), the UN System Staff College(UNSSC) has operated as a knowledge-management and learning institutions to serve UN organisations without duplicating their learning and training activities.

The College's main goal is to be a centre of excellence in learning and training UN Staff and an agent fo the change, carrying out its programmes on the basis of need.  The College's services include: leadership development; peace and security; resident cooperation system support; and UN system and training services.

The College's governing body is the Board of  Governors, appointed by the UN Secretary-General in consultation with the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination(CEB). The Board is chaired by the UN Deputy Secretary-General.  It meets once a year and recieves advice on the College's activities by an Expert Techinical Review Panel.

As established in the new UNSSC Statute, approved by ECOSOC in july 2009(re.2009/10), the UNSSC Board is composed of a maximum of nine individuals and two ex officio members, nominated by the UN Secretary-General from staff of the member organisations of the CEB.  Board members serve two-years terms, which may be renewed for an additional year.

The technical review panel is composed of experts selected by the Board to serve for periods not exceeding three years.
