October: World Rural Women's Day
This year the theme of the World Rural Women's Day, celebrated each year
on the 15th October, is
"Towards
greater access to land and water"
Rural women make up more than a quarter of the
world's population. In order to raise the profile of rural women,
sensitize both governments and the public to their crucial yet largely
unrecognised roles, and promote action to support them, World Rural
Women's Day is marked every year on 15 October, the day before World Food
Day.
