58th General Assembly
Second Committee Final Draft Resolutions

On 16 December 2003, the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the UN General Assembly concluded its work on a number of draft resolutions. The final draft resolutions listed below have been approved by the Second Committee and will be forwarded to the plenary of the General Assembly for final adoption on 23 December 2003. These items were negotiated within a larger effort to restructure the work of the Second Committee.  The heart of this debate revolved around the extent to which the agreed outcomes of the International Conference on Financing for Development and the World Summit on Sustainable Development  would form the basis of the work of the Second Committee, with some delegations believing that while these agenda items were central to the work of the Committee, the Committee should retain related macroeconomic issues such as debt, trade and the international financial system as separate agenda items to be discussed in addition to the implementation of these conference outcomes.
