The Deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights briefed the Committee on the outcome of the Durban Review Conference, which had been held following the session of CEB during the first quarter of 2009. In order to take forward the far-reaching measures contained in the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, she anticipated that there would be a need for an inter-agency process, with the full support of executive heads. This process would focus on the elimination of racism, discrimination and intolerance and the mainstreaming of human rights broadly within the United Nations system’s scope of work. She alerted the Committee that the High Commissioner would raise this matter at the session of CEB to be held in the third quarter of 2009.
The High-level Committee on Programmes took note with appreciation of the briefings by the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights.
